The Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) has released its sector performance metrics for the first quarter of 2026, showcasing a robust financial ecosystem that continues to drive grassroots economic activity across the Kingdom. The latest data highlights a well-balanced sector navigating market dynamics through structured risk management, strong capital mobilization, and an unwavering commitment to women's financial inclusion.
The Q1 2026 metrics reflect a significant structural shift: the graduation of AMK Microfinance Institution Plc. into a commercial bank. While the departure of this major player naturally created a temporary downward shift in the sector's aggregate data, the core of Cambodia’s microfinance landscape remains highly resilient. The sector continues to maintain an expansive network to ensure financial access for both urban and rural communities, backed by a dedicated workforce of 19,387 professionals operating across 785 office branches nationwide.
This extensive infrastructure actively manages an outstanding credit portfolio of $5.45 billion USD across 1.11 million borrowers as of 31 March 2026. On the deposit side, the sector remains a powerful vehicle for domestic capital mobilization, securing $2.67 billion USD in deposits from 1.75 million individual depositors across the country's three remaining Deposit-Taking MFIs (MDIs).
Empowering female stakeholders also remains a primary pillar of the sector's mission. The Q1 figures confirm that women represent the majority of microfinance clients, accounting for 57% of active borrowers and 62.6% of total depositors.
In terms of asset quality and risk management, institutions have continued to prioritize portfolio health. For the first quarter of 2026, the sector's Portfolio at Risk (PAR 30+) stood at 11.20%. To support clients through evolving economic conditions, member institutions maintained a proactive 5.70% loan restructuring rate, while managing to keep the quarterly loan write-off rate to a minimal 1.1%.
