Cambodia Microfinance Association Extends Support to Border Communities and Frontline Forces
The Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) conducted its fourth humanitarian mission to support citizens affected by the recent border tensions, as well as frontline soldiers and local authorities stationed in the affected areas. The mission reflects the microfinance sector’s continued commitment to standing alongside the Royal Government and the Cambodian people during times of difficulty.
The CMA delegation, led by Board Chairman Mr. Sok Voeun and Secretary General Mr. Chhorn Vatanak, traveled to Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces to deliver humanitarian assistance, essential supplies, and financial support to displaced families, frontline forces, and local authorities.
Support for Displaced Families in Oddar Meanchey
The first part of the mission took place in Chong Kal Distrcit, Oddar Meanchey Province, under the coordination of local authorities. Assistance was delivered to 348 displaced families currently taking shelter at the Bat Thkao Pagoda safety center in Chong Kal District after being evacuated from border areas.

The support included financial assistance and essential food supplies such as rice, instant noodles, canned fish, fish sauce, soy sauce, and bottled water for the safety center operations and affected families. In addition, school materials and dolls were distributed to children at the safety center to support their education and provide encouragement during this difficult period.
During the visit, CMA representatives expressed their deep sympathy to families who had been forced to leave their homes and livelihoods, reaffirming that the private financial sector stands in solidarity with the Cambodian people during challenging times.

Support for Frontline Soldiers and Provincial Authorities
On the same day, the CMA delegation continued the mission to Banteay Meanchey Provincial Hall, where they were received by provincial authorities and representatives of frontline soldiers and military police. The delegation provided financial support and essential supplies including food, drinking water, and other daily necessities to support those working to protect Cambodia’s territorial integrity and maintain security along the border.
School supplies and gifts were also provided to the children of frontline soldiers as a gesture of appreciation for the sacrifices made by their families.

Financial Relief Measures for Affected Citizens and Soldiers
Beyond humanitarian assistance, the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA), in close cooperation with the National Bank of Cambodia, has also introduced financial relief measures to support affected borrowers, including displaced citizens and frontline soldiers.
These measures include:
- Waiving fees and penalties,
- Interest payment relief in certain cases,
- Loan restructuring based on clients’ actual situations,
- Debt forgiveness of up to USD 20,000 for fallen soldiers who are borrowers or co-borrowers.
These measures aim to reduce financial pressure on affected families and demonstrate the financial sector’s commitment to supporting national efforts and social responsibility.
Commitment of the Microfinance Sector
This humanitarian mission represents part of the broader contribution of Cambodia’s microfinance sector to social development and crisis response. Through both humanitarian support and financial relief measures, CMA and its members continue to play an important role in supporting communities, maintaining financial stability, and contributing to national resilience during difficult times.
The Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) will continue to work closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to provide support where it is most needed and to ensure that affected communities and frontline forces receive both humanitarian and financial assistance.
